FREEBIES FREEBIES FREEBIES!!! The Studio's Next Designer's Contest Week 4 Submission ~ Back in Time

Ok well this is the final week of The Studio's Next Designer's Contest!!! Its been a rough week for me, I started out with my daughter being sick....then my son (hes three so that was miserable) and of course no way was I going to avoid it so I have been sick for the past four days and have been working on my kit during the peaks of my cold meds!!! So I submitted it last minute , right down to the wire...I can't even believe that I made it in time!! I thought for sure I was going to sit this week out!!

So, anyone that knows me knows I am a total mixed media, art journal girl at heart. I love to scrap too but mixed media is definitely my first love. To me, and this is prob bad to say but sometimes scrap kits get predictable and I hate to be predictable so of course I had to step outside the box and look back and thumb my nose at it when creating this week's submission.

It is also no secret that I love old photos, paintings, well most vintage ephemera. Flappers are probably my most favorite they are so sassy and so much fun. But I also love photos and images of Victorian and Edwardian women as well. My husband thinks its weird but I love how they dressed and how they are just the epitome of femininity. I love the bathing suits that covered them from head to toe (not that I would want to wear one but they just fascinate me!) to the dresses with the corsets and bussels!

So this week I made a pure art journal kit.  Six papers and 25 accents!!! Papers while not hand painted are hand made with brushes, blending, textures etc!!

Hope you like it!!....But Dont forget to scroll down some more as I have other freebies as well!!

My Week 4 Submission!!  If you love it please VOTE  for me!!! Voting ends tonight!

And GRAB This BLOG Freebie that matches my week 4 submission!!!

The Studio's Next Designer's Contest WEEK THREE FREEBIE plus an ADD ON!!

So I finally finished my week three submission for The Studio's Next Designer's Contest!!  This was a hard week for me because it was making everything yourself from scratch.  When creating  a kit I am always doing a ton of extracting and reconstruction as I use lots of ephemera in my work and that doesn't come packaged in nice little cu packages!!

This week I was able to use my own products (Brushes, overlays and edges) to create my papers and that was very exciting for me!!!!  If you haven't seen my CU items you can find them in my Southern Comfort Scraps Store

So this is what I came up with for week 3.  The theme was Stay-cation.

This week I chose to create an Art Journal Kit instead of a traditional scrap kit. We had to pick a place that was close to us as inspiration. Well we just bought a small farm this year. My husband just retired from the Army after 23 years and we were finally able to buy a place and settle down in one place!  So and anyone who buys a house knows that for a while after you buy, you aren't going on many vacations!!! So this kit is not only ABOUT our farm it IS our farm!!

Most of the elements from this kit I photographed, extracted and altered from places around my farm. (except for the chickens...they are from graphics fairy but I did extract and alter!! My chickens wouldnt hold still and cooperate!!)  With the papers you will see one that has the wood from my chicken coop, another is my silo, one is of my pond with the field behind it, my barn door and some greenery in the back yard.  With the elements you will find a bird house that is on my chicken coop, a light from the barn, a milk jug that is on my back stairs, the frame is made with the wood from my chicken coop and the flowers are all from my garden. Everything else is brushes, overlays and edges that I hand painted myself.

This Art Journal Kit really turned into a labor of love and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

So I didn't stop there, I ended up with an add on. These items not so much from my farm but I don't know, doesn't every farm need an ostrich??  So here is my add on

Don't forget to go and LIKE us on Facebook!! I have a Fall Themed FREEBIE on there AND don't forget to look a little lower on my blog for the Scrapping Your Heart Out Blog Train portion!!!

It's Week TWO!! More FREEBIES at The Studio's Next Designer's Contest!!

So I just finished my week 2 submission and got it all in just under the wire!  My internet has been giving me fits, it is just so slow! I guess that't what I get for living out in the sticks!!!

So....this week the theme was "Beach Get Away"  There are some really amazing minis in the gallery that you can download for FREE!  We had to pick a photo that inspired us and get our color palette from that.

This is the photo that I found on Pinterest

I loved the colors in this..plus I figured they would be colors nobody else would pick. I dont like to be just like the rest of the pack!!!

So this is what I came up with

You can download it in MY GALLERY

I think making papers are my most favorite thing to make so I ended up with some extras! We wouldn't want them to go to waste so I put them together in a paper pack that matches this FREE KIT!!!

The Studio's Next Designer's Challenge FREEBIES Galore!

For Week one of the challenge, the theme was Road Trip.  To be honest, I just couldn't see myself creating a traditional "travel" scrap kit. So when thinking about it I thought more along the lines of "What other kinds of trips can you take in your life?"  A Road Trip is nothing but a journey and even when someone goes to the same place their journey is always different from each and every other persons. So as I am a mom, I watch my children every day take the incredible journey of growing up, navigating thru childhood and the ways of the world. Figuring out who they are, who they want to be. It is one of the most important "Road Trips" each and every one of us takes.

So....that is where I came up with my "out side the box...taking five steps away from it and looking back thinking "um yeah...not even close to the beginning theme and idea, but its mine" :-) I hope you enjoy it!

You can head over to the contest at The Studio to DOWNLOAD this FREEBIE!Page 5 half way down!

They will also will be having public voting!! You have to be a registered member of their forum. So if you like my mini and want to vote for me you can REGISTER HERE at the Forum

You can check out the other kits from the other incredible designers entered in this contest HERE

ADB Designs does it AGAIN!!! New Kit in the Great Loves Series!

I just LOVE LOVE LOVE ADB Design's kits, especially for my older photos!! They just complement them beautifully!!! I love the vintage looking elements and the rich gorgeous papers!!! The newest in ADB's series Great Loves is Aida & Radames  Right now this kit is 30% off at The Studio!

I am in love with the pink, blue, reddish color palette!!! Makes for beautiful dramatic pages!!

In case you are not familiar with Aida and Radames' Love Story, here is a little bit on them "Aida & Radames are the tragic lovers from the Verdi opera, Aida. The setting is ancient Egypt and Aida is a Nubian Princess being held as a slave to the Pharaoh's daughter, Amneris. Aida keeps her royal heritage a secret, and falls in love with Radames, the new commander of the Egyptian army and Amneris's betrothed.  Radames leads the army against Nubia capturing the Nubian ruler, AIda's father.  Father and daughter are reunited and Amneris discovers AIda's love for Radames with tragic results."  Here is a link the synopsisprovided by the Metropolitan Opera for those who would like to read more.

Kit contents: 31 papers [11 Egyptian themed vintage papers, 10 embossed solids and a bonus of 10 window pane patterned solids] and 41 unique and beautiful elements.

Here is one of my layouts that I made with this beautiful kit!

We also got a bonus this week!! ADB Designs also put out another kit called Midnight Curfew This one is 50% OFF right now and you get a bonus some FREE clusters!!!

Of course this kit is just as gorgeous as all of her kits are!! check this out!

Here is what I made with this kit!

This next layout when I went to make it, I really wanted to use this one picture of my Grandmother (my father's mother) she passed a while back and I love scrapping with pictures of her as it brings back so many great memories. I loved the picture that I used but before I could even start a layout I needed to fix the picture. Some how the original had been almost ruined, it had these dark speckles on it, but I scanned it anyway.

If you are ever looking photo editing actions for photoshop or photoshop PSE please check out Paint the Moon   I purchased her PSE Bundle of The Essentials and Miracle Makeover and haven't regretted it a second!!! I use them daily on all my photos. Well I thought what the heck, let me try it with an older photo. Here is the photo before I began the restoration.

Using the spot healing brush along with her baby soft skin action, twinkle eyes action and just playing with this and that...I ended up with a photo I could use in my layout and you can see what a classic Italian beauty she was!

I probably could have done some more work on it...it isn't perfect, but it is a photo that is probably 65 years old so I don't want it to look new, but I love how it came out and I think she would have loved this layout!

New Great Love Kits by ADB Designs

I have to admit, I am way way behind in posting to my blog. I don't know why. I am just terrible at updating it which is a shame because I am on the Creative Teams for some really amazing designers and I should share these designs with everyone more often!!! So here it goes!!

ADB Designs has been one of my favorites for a while. I positively drool when looking thru her stores! I love the vintage, heritage feel of her designs. So different from the other designers I CT for!

ADB is now in TWO places! You can find her store at Heritage Scraps and The Studio.  I love both sites and so glad that she has stores in both places!!

BOTH KITS 30% OFF for a limited time!

Her newest kits are themed Great Loves and they are GORGEOUS! Seriously!

Check out Great Love: Abelard & Heloise

This kit includes : 20 rich papers and 34 romantic elements!

The story:
Abelard and Heloise lived in 12th century France and were highly intelligent and well educated. Unusual for a man during the Middle Ages, and certainly a rarity for a woman. Abelard was 20 years senior to Heloise and her tutor.  They fell in love and had an affair which resulted in the birth of their son, Astrolabe (named for the maritime instrument).  They married but Heloise's Uncle and guardian, remained obsessed and angry and acted against Abelard in a vicious attack. The lovers wrote volumes of letters to each other, many of which survive and that include beautiful prose that continues to speak to lovers today.

The next Great Love kit is : Great Love: Tristan & Isolde

This kit includes 18 papers and 38 elements!

Tristan & Isolde are the inspiration for the second kit in my Great Love series.  Their love story has been told in one form or another since the 12th century and has inspired many wonderful and tragic tales of love. Wagner's opera "Tristan & Isolde" was first performed in 1865 and is known for its influence on later Western composers.

The basic narrative (there are multiple versions):
Isolde, a princess of Ireland is betrothed to King Mark of Cornwall. Tristan, the King's nephew goes to Ireland to accompany Isolde on the journey to meet to her future husband. On the ship to Cornwall, Tristan & Isolde accidently drink a love portion that was intended for isolde and Mark; they fall madly in love.  Though in love with Tristan, Isolde marries King Mark and on her wedding night she substitutes her trusted friend and maid, Brangaene, in her marital bed to conceal her loss of maidenhood. Later, fearing Brangaene will reveal her secret, Isolde tries to have her friend killed. Mark is not a fool, he suspects Isolde and Tristan and they are charged with treason.
